The Sierra Bermeja is a mountain area just 10 kilometers from the coast near the town of Estepona on the Costa del Sol, Spain.  In September 2021 it suffered a major forest fire. It burned for 6 full days and nights, destroying almost 10,000 hectares and had a perimiter of over 80 kilometers - about one third of the range.  It forced the evacuation of over 2,500 people and one firefighter was killed trying to extinguish it.  Much wildlife like goats, deer and wild boars were killed and huge amounts of flora like pine trees, cork oak trees, chestnut trees and some unique species of fir trees were destroyed. It is appalling that the fire was started deliberately in two places at the same time.
