The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an annual event held for three weeks each August as part of the Edinburgh International Festival. It is held in front of temporary grandstands on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, a hugely imposing fortress which dominates Edinburgh's skyline and which dates from the 12th century. The Tattoo has been running for over 60 years and is performed by members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces as well as guest military groups and bands from other parts of the world. It is seen by over 200,000 people each year as well as a worldwide TV audience of some 100 million. If you are in Scotland in August it is not to be missed.
